WORTH IT?

“They call it freedom. But if you can’t stop doing what everyone else is doing, are you really free?”

WORTH IT?

A personal manifesto about what I think about the people we look up to. We as young people love freedom. “Young and free, forget about tomorrow” is what I hear every day. If you are the type to think about the future, you are considered the weird one, apparently.

So, if we think about it, a small group of people is telling us what freedom supposedly looks like. So I asked myself: “Is it really freedom? Is it freedom to have the urge to go out with a girl just because I saw someone else do it? Is it freedom to have a relentless craving for rolling a joint or smoking hookah every time I feel the need to chill? Is it freedom to get tipsy whenever I feel like I should escape my depression?”

NO!

The cold, hard answer I found was no. That’s not freedom; in fact, it is bondage. I think it is not worth it to live like some rich celebrity. It is not worth finding myself every Sunday morning feeling down, depressed, and lonely.

Forget about what your friends or homies think. Is it worth living like this, knowing you are going to do the same thing every weekend only to end up as a pitiful excuse of a young man?

The artist I saw in a music video, dancing like he has nothing to worry about, is not worthy to tell me how to live. This is my life. Why should I waste it because some celebrity said it was “cool” to be young?

You can choose to be a member of the chained population who think they are free, or you can choose to open your eyes and live for something worth it.
