IRRESPONSIBLE GENERATION

“True freedom is not the absence of responsibility—it is the freedom to choose responsibility.”

The word “freedom” is one of the most misused concepts of our time. What does freedom mean? Does it mean being led by oneself to carry out whatever one is motivated to do? Or does it mean being completely separated from any kind of responsibility or concern? Its meaning has been redefined in the present-day youth.

Young people often misunderstand the very essence of its meaning and therefore abuse it. This wrong attitude is spreading among the generation of the world. Currently, it has become a very serious issue in developed countries. Teenagers are not even willing to complete high school. They do not want to work and often refrain from taking any kind of responsibility in their lives. This will eventually put a country in great danger, since youth are the next generation.

What promotes and paves the way for such abuse among the generation? This phenomenon relates to the issue discussed in this particular magazine. Pop culture has taken the lead in its spread. What is transferred through music, movies, and social media has greatly contributed to its expansion. The generation that is addicted to popular culture has become irresponsible. No one is willing to take responsibility because they consider it a burden. Misinterpretations defined in this way have greatly shaped the culture of a community. Now the generation has become a slave to the idea of freedom.

Freedom is not being separated from responsibility, but rather being free from any external force while still willingly carrying out responsibility.

“There is no walking into freedom without shouldering responsibility.”Dr. Myles Munroe
