CURIOSITY The Silent War on Your Screen

It’s strange how a phone — that little device we hold so casually in our hands — can turn into a battlefield. Each swipe, each click, each scroll feels harmless, but beneath the glow of the screen lies a minefield. You never quite know which step might explode — what image, what link, what “suggested video” will pull you into a world you never meant to enter. And yet, many still walk through this digital war zone with careless confidence. “I can handle it,” we say.“I know when to stop.” But can we, really?

Because temptation online doesn’t shout — it whispers. It seduces. It disguises itself in beauty, curiosity, and the illusion of control. And before you know it, you’re not walking anymore — you’re sinking.

For many teenagers, the internet is not just a place to learn or connect — it’s a mirror reflecting both their innocence and their vulnerability. Hours slip away on social media, and with a few innocent taps, the unthinkable appears — naked bodies, forbidden pleasure, forbidden questions. At first, it’s shocking. Your heart races. You tell yourself it was an accident. But curiosity — that quiet, persistent voice — doesn’t rest. It calls you back.“Just once more,” it says. “Just to understand. ” But each return blurs the line between accident and addiction.

This is how many fall — not into love, but into lust disguised as freedom. What begins as “fun” ends as a poisonous pleasure that consumes the heart and corrodes the mind.

Pornography is no longer hidden in the shadows. It’s mainstream. It’s normalized. It’s everywhere. Children as young as eight stumble upon it — sometimes by chance, sometimes led by curiosity, sometimes by the example of those they look up to. The numbers speak loudly — Ethiopia ranks fourth in the world in pornography consumption. Behind that statistic are millions of silent captives — boys and girls chained by the very thing they thought they could control. For some, the shame becomes unbearable. Many lose their sense of self. Some even lose their will to live. The digital world promised connection but delivered isolation, emptiness, and despair.

But here’s the truth: no addiction is too deep, no darkness too thick for light to pierce through. Freedom isn’t found in denying weakness — it’s found in surrendering it. It begins with a choice — to turn off what corrupts and turn toward what heals. To fill the mind not with poison, but with purpose.

You are not meant to be a prisoner of your own desires. You are not a number in a statistic. You are a soul — breathing, precious, and capable of redemption. All it takes is belief — that you can rise again, that you can be free, that purity is not outdated but revolutionary. Because in a world addicted to darkness, choosing light is rebellion.

“There’s no freedom in being held captive by your desires.” Freedom begins when you believe you can be whole again.
